I started Dubstar Records in jan 2007 because I wanted another avenue to be able to release the music that loved producing, aswell as wanting to get my sound out there!
I did'nt search for any artists outside of the UK because I was working with a lot of good producers at the time and we all had a lot of music for the world to hear.
Good music is good music no matter where it is from and in my mind it is not where your from but where your at.
Your production level needs to be at a certain standard to be accepted in the Dubstep scene, no matter where your from. Your production level needs to be at a certain standard to be accepted in the Dubstep scene, no matter where your from.
Labels will play a big part in the futre, they always have and always will. The internet has made things harder for labels as a lot of tunes get leeked onto the Internet and downloaded for free. The bigger the label the bigger the tune.
I have faced alot of challanges as a producer over the years, and I've discovered that the main thing is you have to work hard, have alot of faith and belive in what you are doing!
My role is CEO and owner of Dubstar Records. I manage 20 plus DJ's on my agency and label and collaborate amounst several alias in the Dubstep business. I never thought about radically changing my sound, just adjusted it to the times in order to progress and evolve.
I think the free download thing is good for producers. You have to give back to your fans and the people that follow you. Its good for the musician and label.
Through my producing and managing Dubstar, I wana keep pushing our sound out there and eventually having Dubstar's own label night in major cities. The prospects that really appeal top me is seeing my sound and label grow to be one of the biggests thing in Dubstep.
I'm thinking about Dubstar's fortnightly label rave in London with 25 DJ's plus and a forth coming album qith BassClash. My plans for this year are to to do a lot of things to improve and better my label.
At the Bass Exe festival you should expect for lazers, lights and a lot of wobble! Not for the faint hearted.
